How do you choose a top home cinema system that guarantees the quality of your audio and video experience?
I’ll explain in the following lines the main features to keep in mind when you start looking for a home cinema system.
A home cinema system is made up of a multimedia player (DVD player or Blu-ray player ) that has an audio system consisting of a subwoofer and a certain number of satellites. Form home cinema audio systems is typically 2.1, 5.1 or 7.1 means that consist of two satellites and a subwoofer, five satellites and a subwoofer and that seven satellites plus subwoofer.
There are sound systems that include amplifiers, that, from my point of view, would be too much for home use, and I would recommend them primarily for professional use.
All-in-One Home Cinema System or Separate Components?
Home cinema systems can be all-in-one or built on separately purchased components.
All-in-one systems containing DVD or Blu-Ray player, subwoofer, satellites, necessary cables and components required and the user manual of the product, so the buyer does not just have to install the system at home and enjoy it.
Components of a home cinema system can also be purchased separately. You can choose to build your own system by purchasing exactly what you need. The advantage of such a system is that it offers much greater flexibility in terms of purchase and maybe even a lower final price. You can buy components from different manufacturers depending on price and preference.
For your comfort, I recommend purchasing an all-in-one home cinema system, otherwise buying components separately can be the right choice, especially if you like to study things long and fit the system with your hand until the last component.
The Best Sound System for Your Home Cinema Setup
As mentioned above, when it comes to the sound system, you can choose between 2, 5 or 7 satellites along with a subwoofer. In rare cases, you will also find 3.1 or 6.1 web sites, but focus on the 3 common systems. Normally, the higher the number of satellites, the better it will be. There are, however, cases where a 2.1-type system with only two satellites is sufficient.
The 2.1 sound system has a subwoofer that is meant to be positioned in the center position and two satellites that sit on both sides of the TV. The 3.1 rarely found system is positioned the same way as the third satellite will be positioned near the TV, just like the subwoofer in the center position.
The downside of the two-satellite system is that the two speakers will have to replace the small number of satellites so the sound quality will not be of high quality. For a small room, however, I consider that a 2.1 system is sufficient, one with more satellites would be too much.
The 5.1 sound system offers an excellent surround through the 5 satellites. The satellites are positioned as follows: three satellites in front (left, right, center) and two satellites in the back of the room (left and right) while the subwoofer can be placed anywhere.
Most HD movies transmit sound in 5.1 format, so buying such a system is the most appropriate.I recommend buying such a system for medium or large rooms where space is not a problem, so sounds are perceived well by a satellite positioning function.
The 7.1 sound system is strictly for large rooms, requiring a significant distance between the satellites so that the sounds played are perceived correctly in the surround system. The location of the satellites is exactly the same as the 5.1 system, with the two extra satellites being placed behind the viewing camera.
The difference between this system and the one with five satellites is not great than it can in terms of price.
The sound bar is a compact, long-lived sound system capable of playing stereo or surround sound. A soundbar can be an option for smaller rooms, better than a 2.1 system and even more economical in some cases.
The advantages of a soundbar are ease of transport and installation, and can be placed anywhere in the room (ideally in the vicinity of the TV).
Blu-ray or DVD player?
DVD players have disappeared lately in the production of electronic brands being replaced with Blu-ray players. You can still find DVD players left in stock in the store, even at a low price.
If the budget allocated to the home cinema system is small, then the correct (or mandatory) choice is a DVD player.
Blu-ray players run much higher quality DVD movies than a DVD player. A Blu-ray player allowed you to play Full HD videos (1920 × 1080 pixels). Note that buying a Blu-ray player is useless if you do not have a Full HD TV to connect to.
Other criteria to consider when choosing a home cinema system
Functions, dimensions, or design are also features to take into account. If the design and dimensions of the player do not vary greatly from model to model, in terms of the audio system, they can vary quite a bit.
You will find small satellites, large satellites, tall satellites, cones, squares, foot satellites, wall gates, etc. The subwoofer can also take a variety of shapes, the range of colors is also quite varied. It is important to find the design of the room where the system is to be integrated.
One of the most important features of the audio system is power. The higher the power, the more distortions will be, and the system will not be forced if you want to make a high volume audition. For a home cinema system a few hundred W should be enough.
The player looks at the connectivity formats and supported files , the more the better. Wi-Fi as well as web connectivity is also a plus.
The system’s satellites can be wired or wireless, the wireless ones clearly having the advantage of being mounted much easier and without “wires” at sight.
Having said that, I can only hope for your success hoping that the tips and insights above offered you at least an idea of what options you have and how to choose a top home cinema system for you!
